(More customer reviews)(Admittedly, what you're about to read was written for the Coleman AAA- battery version. But I'd bet I'd wind-up writing the same thing if I got this AA-battery version of the same flashlight.)
I bought this flashlight because the description said it gave a 120 degree elliptical (plus a 'focused spot') light characteristic. Well, I 'do' get a mediocre focused spot...but as for an "elliptical" light pattern, that's a joke.Along with the center spot, it only shines a rectangular (NOT elliptical) very narrow, light pattern. As I recall my geometry, "elliptical" means a sort of 'squashed' circular area. This flashlight gives anything BUT that!As I said, besides the center spot, all you get is a narrow 'slit' of (perhaps) 120 degrees of light.I can't imagine too many situations in which I'd want a narrow, rectangular-shaped 'slit' of light. It's description implies "widebeam", but that's just misleading! I'm really disappointed in a company like Coleman.

Product Description:
Coleman's innovative WideBeam Squared Flashlights illuminate a whole new approach to portable lighting. The WideBeam light casts an elliptical light shaft, offering a wide 120-degree angle of light, while the patented two-tier reflector gives a bright, focused spot. The WideBeam Flashlight's super bright 1-watt Luxeon LED bulb is Coleman's brightest LED. With its minimal power-drain, the LED offers reliable, long-lasting area lighting. The flashlight sports a push-button switch, comfortable handle and shock-absorbing head, so it's easy to use and stands up to wear and tear -- and its clever flat shape means it won't roll when you put it down. Made to be strong, durable, and weather-resistant, the WideBeam Squared Flashlight is a great choice for camping, hiking, and beyond. The 2AA WideBeam Squared Flashlight operates on two AA batteries (not included).
